Gov. Perdue pushes for sales tax hike

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Visitation at North Carolina’s state parks and state recreation areas continued at a record level in 2011, with 14.25 million visits, matching the all-time record set in 2009 and posting a slight increase from 14.19 visits in 2010, according to the N.C. NC unemployment rate still in double digits

RALEIGH, N.C. — November marked the fifth straight month of double-digit unemployment in North Carolina as the number of people unable to find a job, though down slightly from a month ago, remained stubbornly high.
 
The state's overall rate decreased in November as the unemployment rate crept downward to 10 percent, from 10.4 percent one month ago. That's still two-tenths of a percent higher than the rate was in November of 2010, as 451,413 North Carolinians remain unemployed.

RALEIGH, NC — The number of people employed in North Carolina was virtually unchanged from a month ago. The rate decreased slightly in October as unemployment dropped from September's 12-month high-water mark of 10.5 percent to October's 10.4 percent.

RALEIGH, N.C. – Most North Carolina voters, 85 percent, think state House and Senate leaders should be limited in the number of terms they serve.
 
All legislators currently serve two-year terms. Fifty-one percent of voters think legislators should be limited to serving four years or less in a leadership position. Seventy-one percent said they should be limited to six years or less.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Next week, television and radio stations across the state will participate in the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The national test will take place Wednesday, November 9 at 2 p.m. eastern standard time and may last up to three and half minutes.

POLL: Voters cool on economy, Gov. Perdue

 
RALEIGH, N.C. – Attitudes among North Carolina voters remain bleak concerning the economy as most say it will take at least two years or more for the recession to end.
 
Eighty-six percent of voters think recovery is more than one year away while 62 percent said they think it will take over two years for the economy to improve and the current recession to end. Twenty-four percent said they think it will take between one and two years, while just one percent said the recession has ended.
