ASHEBORO, N.C. -- Last weekend marked not only the seasonal opening of the North Carolina Zoo, but also the opening of the park's new Dinosaurs exhibit. Fifteen, life-like, animatronic creatures representing more than a dozen dinosaur species in a deep-forest exhibit were created just for this first-time, temporary attraction at the zoo.

The North Carolina Arts Council will accept applications for the 2011-2012 Artist Fellowship awards for composers of jazz, chamber, electronic, experimental and symphonic music, songwriters, playwrights and screenwriters, spoken-word artists, and writers of fiction, poetry, literary nonfiction and literary translation until Monday, November 1.
The fellowship award is $10,000. Fellowship guidelines can be found at www.ncarts.org.

CHAPEL HILL, NC (Business Wire) – Carolina Performing Arts, founded in 2005 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, welcomes the world-renowned Bolshoi Ballet to Memorial Hall June 10-14.
The Bolshoi Ballet will perform Don Quixote and Swan Lake; neither ballet will be performed anywhere else on the tour.
The Bolshoi which has never performed in the Southeast and hasn't toured in the United States since 2007 is making only three scheduled stops, one of which is Chapel Hill.
